Dear CMS Families,

We are so eager to begin the 20/21 school year in just a few short days. It’s been nice to speak with so many of you to answer your thoughtful questions and hear your concerns about what the school year will look like at CMS. We know you want the best for your child’s education and your ideas and concerns helped shape the offerings below to provide strong educational experiences and support to students while keeping everyone as safe as possible. 

Hybrid Option (Cohorts A & B - Monday/Thursday cohort & Tuesday/Friday cohort respectively):

Students attend CMS two days a week where they:

  • Will be screened (temps/symptoms, etc.) before boarding the bus/entering the building

  • Follow a normal schedule

  • Remain in a homebase classroom with the same 8 to 10 students throughout the day to minimize spread of germs

  • Report directly to their homebase each morning without lingering in hallways

  • Have a longer advisory/lunch block followed by PBL in their homebase classroom

  • Travel only to Unified Arts and Science classes due to the “lab” equipment and supplies necessary for those classes. (Our schedule allows the classroom & equipment to be cleaned after each cohort is there)

  • Will access in-person instruction and support on their assigned days. This includes content instruction as well as support for how to use google classroom, google meet, and many other 21st century skills for learning and life. 

  • Will complete online learning and remote assignments on their “remote” days.

Remote Option:

Students will do all of their learning from home. Parents can choose from the following:

  • VLACs - Students may opt to attend all or some of their courses via Virtual Learning Academy online course enrollment. Classes follow the common core and therefore align with classes being taught at CMS.

  • CMS remote learning - students are enrolled in classes here at CMS but do all of their work from home via google classroom. Teachers will plan regular google meet sessions with these students.

Special Education Supports:

CMS will meet needs of our students with Individualized Education Plans and 504s as follows:

  • Students will be scheduled to receive specialized services such as PT, OT and speech as detailed in their IEP.

  • Students with IEPs and 504s who need additional support to meet remote learning expectations will be scheduled to receive those supports. This may include attending CMS for a scheduled support session on “remote” days. 

Please note, if you start with the hybrid option, you may choose to go to remote if at any time you feel the hybrid option is not working well for your child. Switching from remote to hybrid is not permitted at this time.

Frequently Asked Questions about our Reopening:

When does school start for each cohort?

School starts for everyone on Thursday, September 3rd. Cohorts B and C should login to their email on or before Thursday for further instructions.

How do I know which cohort my student is assigned to?

There is an A, B or C to the right of the student’s name and ID above their schedule. 

  • Cohort A attends school Monday and Thursday and learns remotely other days.
    Cohort B attends school Tuesday and Friday and learns remotely other days.

  • Cohort C does not attend school and should access remote learning Monday through Friday.

How do I access my student’s schedule?

What if I don’t know/have my PowerSchool login?

Click “Forgot Username or Password” just below the login screen.

My student still has items in their locker from last year. When will s/he be allowed to get them?

  • 7th and 8th grade students who never retrieved items from their lockers last year will be allowed to do so when they are here in the building. If your child is a fully remote learner, please call the office to schedule a pick up before the end of September. All lockers will be cleared out after September 30 and items will be donated or thrown away. 

Attached you will find additional useful information from your child’s grade level teachers. The entire CMS faculty and staff eagerly awaits the start of school. 

We will offer Google Meets to students and their families prior to the start of school as follows:

  • 6th Grade - Tuesday, September 1st  at 6:00 PM

  • 7th & 8th Grade - Wednesday, September 2nd  at 6:00 PM

In the meantime, please continue to reach out with any questions, concerns or feedback so we can continue to adapt and refine our practices in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
