Here at CMS we strive to:
Motivate students to seek counseling of their own volition in a creative and secure culture which supports and encourages self-referral.
Counsel inpidual and groups of students who have issues which inhibit their ability to learn and provide an atmosphere in which students can deal with their issues openly and effectively.
Provide counseling services to students designed to facilitate their educational, personal/social, and career development. This may include the development of:
Self-awareness
Conflict resolution
Goal Setting
Personal Responsibility
Personal Decision Making
We coordinate and interpret assessment instruments to provide information regarding aptitude, ability, skills, learning styles, academic achievement and interests to assist in educational, career, college and vocational planning.
We provide developmentally appropriate services designed to help a student investigate his/her own capabilities, achievements, interests, and adjustment. Activities may include:
Career Exploration and Counseling: career fair, job shadowing, interest inventories, and career software.
College Exploration and Counseling: college fair, financial aid nights, coordinating testing.
Supporting Additional Enrichment Activities: identifying students for summer programs
We collaborate with students, administration, faculty, and families, including (but not limited to) participating in the Student Support Team (SST) meetings and working with the special education team.
We Make referrals to and access information from outside community agencies.
We assist with the development of a student's academic plan as part of a team with technical, clerical, and administrative support.
We utilize appropriate technology in a variety of ways.
We educate students, staff, administrators, and community as to the school counselors’ role.
We adhere to professional/ethical standards for school counselors in accordance with the New Hampshire Department of Education Office of Guidance and Counseling, NH Department of Education K-12 Career Development Curriculum Frameworks, and the ASCA (American School Counselor Association).
